...and Gibralter as a
girl where I as a Flower of the mountain yes when I put the corse
(rose) in my hair like the Andalusion girls used or shall I wear a red
yes and how he kissed me under the Moorish wall and I thought well as
well him as another and then I asked him with my eyes to ask again yes
and he asked me would I yes and I drew him down to me so he could feel
my breasts all perfume yes and his heart was going like mad and yes I
said yes I will Yes.” ~James Joyce
I've loved this
verse since the first time I heard it on a silly Rodney Dangerfield
movie (Back to School). I always hear it in my head in the voice of
the lovely literature teacher who opened her class by reciting it,
with feeling, to her class in her smooth rich voice.
in the spirit of
Joyce... ©Sonja Tores 2006 |
